Fernando Hashimoto is Full Professor of Percussion at University of Campinas / UNICAMP (Brazil), Fernando has a Bachelor's and Master's degree in music from UNICAMP, a Doctorate from The City University of New York as a CAPES/Fulbright Scholar and Habilitation from UNICAMP. He is the leader of the CNPq research group: Brazilian Percussion – historical, interpretative study and its repertoire, based in the Percussion Lab of the UNICAMP Institute of Arts, where he advises undergraduate, master and doctoral students in percussion since 1998. In this institution, Fernando served as Vice President of Outreach and Culture and as Director of the Institute of Arts. Fernando's production encompasses the publication of articles in periodicals, books and communications at conferences in Brazil and abroad, as well as varied national and international artistic production, both in the area of classical and popular music. Fernando has been invited to give masterclasses and recitals at several universities and important festivals overseas and has performed in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Croatia, Sweden, Puerto Rico, England, Mexico, Germany, Spain, Chile, Portugal, Czech Republic, Canada, Turkey, Switzerland, France, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Peru, Slovenia, Colombia, Norway, Finland, China, Denmark, South Korea and the United States where he performed in 28 different states and participated in 6 editions of PASIC. He has participated in CDs released by several labels such as Aliud Records (Netherlands), Galeão (Brazil), Cricket City Music & Media (USA), Solute Songs-BMI (USA), IPH Records (Brazil), Mellow Records (Italy), Eldorado (Brazil), Universal Music (Brazil). Fernando acted as Principal Timpanist of the Campinas Symphony Orchestra for 16 years. Internationally recognized as an expert in the Brazilian percussion repertoire, Fernando has premiered more than 50 works by Brazilian composers, many of which were commissioned or dedicated to him. Among these works, 18 concertos for percussion and orchestra stand out. Fernando is frequently invited as jury member in several music competitions in Brazil and abroad. In recognition of his service and dedication to the music community, Fernando received the 2007 Percussive Arts Society Outstanding Service Award. Fernando is an artist sponsored by Zildjian (USA), Schagerl Drums (Austria) and ADAMS (Netherlands).
